Stadsdiner
A dinner celebrating Rotterdam’s city-makers

This special dinner was organized by Gemeente Rotterdam as part of Placemaking Week Europe. With the theme "Local Energies", the dinner served as a heartfelt thank-you to Rotterdam’s city-makers, who tirelessly work to make the city more beautiful every day. The menu, conversation starters, and a sourdough bread prompt added meaningful layers of engagement.
For the table concept, I designed several elements to foster interaction and connection:
The tablecloths and napkins were crafted by Rotterdams Handwerk and were central to the starter, "What do you share with others?", encouraging guests to break bread and share dips.
Personalized fabrics determined seating, while the napkins hinted at a table switch later in the evening. The tablecloths served as shared canvases where participants left thoughts, ideas, and reflections throughout the conversations.
The food was made and served by various social initiatives, including Buurtbuik, Brooderhood, Mensa Mensa en Winket Deli. Each course built on the collective story, reflecting the dinner’s social and collaborative spirit.
This project was commisioned for Gemeente Rotterdam and in collaboration with Sarah van Schaik, Zhenja Zheng and OASE Rotterdam.
